Air or Sea from China to the UAE? A Cost Calculation, Not an Opinion

“Air is expensive, sea is slow” is not a decision framework. The useful comparison starts with what you are actually being charged for.
Air freight: calculate chargeable weight
Air freight compares actual weight with volumetric weight. The larger figure becomes chargeable weight. A light but bulky shipment can therefore cost more than its scale weight suggests.
Sea freight: calculate volume and handling
For LCL cargo, CBM and minimum billing matter. Add origin handling, destination clearance and delivery before comparing the landed number.
Put the deadline next to the cost
If a stockout costs more than the air premium, air can be the cheaper business decision. If the deadline is flexible, sea normally wins on cost per unit.
